We’re thrilled to share exciting news from one of our long-time tenant artists, Karen Zukas of the New Bedford Arts and Cultural Emporium (Studio 260). Last year, Karen brought incredible energy and creativity to Kilburn Mill by organizing a mural slam that left its mark, literally on our walls. If you’ve admired the vibrant murals throughout the mill, you’ve seen the results of that effort.
Now, thanks to her dedication and a new grant award for 2025, the Mural Slam is back! With support from the Mass Cultural Council and matching funds from the owners of Kilburn Mill, this year’s event promises to be even more inspiring.

Why It Matters
Events like the NBACE Mural Slam highlight the power of community, creativity, and collaboration. They transform our shared spaces into living galleries and give local creators a platform to showcase their vision and talent.

Karen’s leadership, paired with the support of Kilburn Mill and the Mass Cultural Council, is helping this tradition grow. We hope it becomes an annual celebration of art in New Bedford.
Mark your calendars. Submissions open September 15. We cannot wait to see the creativity that emerges this year.
